Ribbon:
8” Certainly Celery 5/8” Satin Ribbon
4” Old Olive 1/8” Taffeta Ribbon

Directions

1.Fold base card in half and crease with bone folder.

2.Pink Pirouette - Measure to 3-1/4” on one end, rim from the 5-1/2 to the 3-1/4”, making the long diagonal edge. Score at 3”, 5” and 7”. Valley fold the two outside score lines and mountain fold the middle one.

3.Whisper White - Measure 3-1/8” on one end, trim from the 5-1/4” to the 3-1/8” making the diagonal edge. Then trim ?” off the bottom.
•Then working from the right edge of the paper (the 5” edge), measure 2-3/4” and trim for the largest panel (it will measure 2-3/4” x 5” with the diagonal top).
•Then trim ?” off the end of the remaining white (larger piece); this is how you gradually make each panel smaller to fit the Pink Pirouette.
•Next, measure 1-3/4” from the end and cut for the next largest panel.
•Remove another ?” from the remaining edge.
•Measure another 1-3/4” and cut for the third panel.
•Trim off another ?” and make the last panel 2-3/4” wide.

4.For the front of the card, run the Pink Pirouette piece through the Big Shot using the polka dot embossing folder. Set aside.

5.Using reinkers, load the unlinked triple cell cartridge with your color choice. Load the cartridge and the build a wheels into the Jumbo wheel handle. Stamp/roll the Jump roller diagonally across the Whisper White paper until it is filled.

6.Lay White and pink cards face down next to each other. Adhere together using Scotch tape across the back.

7.Tie Satin ribbon into a knot around a Stampin’ Mist bottle cap. Slide off and cut the loop in a diagonal. Adhere longer straps around the seam line front of card and adhere to the back with Scotch tape. Adhere to the front of the card.

8.First Panel: Using a stamp-a-ma-jig, stamp birdcage and stand using Soft Suede. Stamp bird in case using Rose Red. Attach half pearl at top of cage.

9.Stamp sentiment from Tiny Tags onto scrap of Pretty In Pink. Punch out with Jewelry tag punch. Adhere to birdcage stand with glue dot.

10. Tie 1/8 Taffeta ribbon into a small bow. Adhere to sentiment tag with glue dot. Adhere to first spot on pink card.

11.Second panel: Ink up French Filagree background stamp with Pink Pirouette and stamp. Using stamp-a-ma-jig, stamp Heart using Rose Red Craft Ink. Cover liberally with clear embossing powder. Emboss with heat gun.

Marl / Germany: Wolf Vostell's sculpture "La Tortuga". Pump and wheels

Marl / Germany: Wolf Vostell's sculpture

This is not a scrap heap but a work of art: The German artist Wolf Vostell (1932-1998) created this sculpture (or installation, better to say). It mainly consists of a steam locomotive from the WW II era. He turned the engine upside down, placed it in a huge concrete tub and named it "La Tortuga" (because it looks like a huge tortoise which is helplessly lying on its back). Resting in front of the city theater of Marl / Ruhrgebiet the engine is slowy rusting and dilapidating. It is an impressive symbol for a whole era of world history: The locomotive belongs to the BR 52 class of Deutsche Reichsbahn which played an important role in WW II and in the holocaust. The Nazi administration planned to build 15.000 of these engines (only 7.000 were finished before the end of war). The locomotives were intended to haul supply trains to the front lines in eastern europe. Moreover they pulled the long lines of waggons in which jewish people and other victims of the Nazi regime were transported into the concentration camps.

What I like about this work of art is that it deals with a very serious topic in quite an unagitated way. There is only one single phrase coming out of a hidden loudspeaker which refers to the deportation even of children and elderly jewish people which indicates what the sculpture is all about. Apart from that Wolf Vostell leaves it to the beholder to "read" this work as a anti-totalitarism and anti-war monument. The work is in no way heroic; instead it solemn in a very decent way.
